Where does the helicopter land for St Andrews?

Helicopter charter to St Andrews works from Dundee Airport, which our library records as the closest airport to St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles. St Andrews lies across the Tay estuary in Fife, and the car transfer from Dundee is a short one. Dundee has a 1,400 metre runway with an instrument approach and Jet A-1 only. Prior permission applies, and the airport is consulting on shorter hours, so we confirm the position when you book.

Charter-A Helicopter is the helicopter charter service of Charter-A Ltd, which has arranged private flights across the UK and Europe since 2011. Perth Airport at Scone is 11.5 nautical miles from Dundee and serves a quieter helicopter landing in Perthshire; see Perth and Dundee. We do not promise a landing at a golf club or hotel; each is subject to landing permission and site suitability, and we ask the owner first.

Helicopter figures are typical block times: distance at 135 knots plus 8 minutes, shown as a range. Road figures are free-flowing road times, a floor that real journeys rarely beat. Distances are in a straight line. Figures from our UK route data, checked 29 Sep 2026.

Times from Edinburgh, Glasgow and the south

From Dundee, Edinburgh is about 20 to 25 minutes by helicopter against at least 1 hour 7 minutes by road, Glasgow about 30 to 40 against 1 hour 47, Newcastle about 45 to 55 against 3 hours 49 and Leeds about 70 to 90 against 5 hours 20. Those are figures from our route data; the road times are free-flowing floors. For a trip that starts in the south, Newcastle to Edinburgh and London to Edinburgh are the linking routes.

Golf days and corporate play

St Andrews Links has several courses, and the Old Course is among the most famous in the world. Tee times, hospitality and tickets for events are arranged through the links and the organisers, not by us; we arrange the travel. Big championship weeks are the hardest dates to plan, because accommodation and roads are full and permissions are scarce, so ask as early as you can.

For a client day outside the championship weeks, a typical plan is a morning flight from Edinburgh, a round and lunch, and an evening return. Our golf by helicopter page explains how corporate golf days are built, and the Scotland pages cover the rest: Edinburgh and the Scotland region.

Planning notes

Arrive 10 minutes before departure, give us each passenger's weight and keep golf bags and luggage to soft cases where the hold is small; we tell you the limit for the aircraft. Fife's weather can change fast, so we watch the forecast on the day before and on the morning. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing.

Executive Global Travel can have a car waiting at Dundee. See the Scottish airfield directory for the other sites.
