How do guests arrive at Glorious Goodwood by helicopter?
Helicopter charter to Glorious Goodwood uses the aerodrome rather than a landing at the course.
Helicopters land at Goodwood Aerodrome, which is the helicopter gateway to Goodwood's racing and motorsport. From there guests are driven to the racecourse, with the transport included in the event landing fee. Event slots are strictly allocated, so we request yours as soon as you commit.
The aerodrome is a licensed aerodrome for both aeroplanes and helicopters, and not a heliport. On event days it is open from 07:30 to 19:00 local time and has no lighting, so everything must be done in daylight. Landing requires prior permission. We arrange the permission and the slot with your booking, subject to site suitability.
Some guides say helicopters land directly at the racecourse. We follow the aerodrome's published arrangements and confirm the exact one with you, because it can change from year to year.

A typical race-day timeline
- Late morning: guests arrive at the departure site, 10 minutes before take-off.
- Flight: typically 25 to 30 minutes from central London.
- Aerodrome: a short handling stop, then the transfer to the racecourse.
- Lunch and racing: the helicopter waits at the aerodrome or repositions, depending on the slot.
- Return: a booked departure before the 19:00 close, which in July leaves comfortable daylight, but we keep the margin.
The aim is to avoid the queue for the course on the big days, which the aerodrome transfer does. We can also collect from a suitable private site if you have one, subject to landing permission and site suitability.
Booking and the rest of the Goodwood calendar
Glorious Goodwood is one of the weeks where we lose availability for other work, because so many helicopters are in demand at once. Please book early and send passenger weights; bags should be soft.
The same aerodrome serves the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, and the Revival, which Goodwood announces for 17 to 19 September 2027. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing. For costs, see the helicopter hire price guides. Compare other meetings on horse racing by helicopter, and see the events hub.
