What about East Midlands Airport?
East Midlands Airport at Castle Donington is about 10 nautical miles from Nottingham and is the big alternative. It runs 24 hours, has customs and immigration on site and exempts business aviation from slot rules. If you are connecting to a jet or arriving from abroad, it is the natural choice. A helicopter can meet a private jet there. See our page on helicopter charter at East Midlands and, for fixed-wing, charter-private-jet.com.
How much faster is a helicopter from Nottingham?
Birmingham is about 20 to 25 minutes by helicopter from Nottingham Airport at Tollerton and 1 hour 8 minutes by road. Silverstone is typically 25 to 35 minutes against 1 hour 29 minutes. Leeds takes 30 to 40 minutes in the air and 1 hour 59 minutes on the road, and Manchester 25 to 35 minutes against 2 hours 9 minutes.
London is about 45 to 55 minutes by helicopter and 2 hours 45 minutes by road. Cardiff, at 55 to 70 minutes, is more than 3 hours 28 minutes by car. As always, the road figure is the free-flowing minimum. Our London helicopter transfers page explains the arrival options in the capital, including the London Heliport in Battersea.
Why do Nottingham firms and clubs use helicopters?
Nottingham is a base for consumer health, financial services, data and life sciences, and the wider East Midlands holds Rolls-Royce in Derby and Toyota at Burnaston. Teams visit sites in Birmingham, Leicester and London, and a helicopter keeps those calls inside a morning. See our business helicopter charter page.
The region is also strong on sport. Trent Bridge hosts international cricket, and Nottingham Forest play at the City Ground. For race days and Grand Prix weekends, helicopter charter to Silverstone is only 25 to 35 minutes away from here. Leicester and Birmingham are close by; read helicopter charter Leicester, Birmingham and the Midlands region page.
