Helicopter figures are typical block times: distance at 135 knots plus 8 minutes, shown as a range. Road figures are free-flowing road times, a floor that real journeys rarely beat. Distances are in a straight line. Figures from our UK route data, checked 29 Sep 2026.
The numbers from Tatenhill and Halfpenny Green
Staffordshire sits between three big markets and the roads between them are busy. From Tatenhill, Birmingham is about 15 to 20 minutes by helicopter, Manchester 20 to 25 against 1 hour 35, Liverpool and Silverstone 25 to 35 against 1 hour 41, Cheltenham 30 to 35 against 1 hour 43 and Oxford 30 to 40 against 1 hour 52. From Halfpenny Green, Birmingham is 15 to 20 against 58 minutes, Cheltenham 20 to 25 against 1 hour 10 and Manchester 25 to 35 against 1 hour 58.
The road figures are free-flowing floors. The M6 and M42 are where real journeys slow down, and that is what the helicopter avoids. See Birmingham to Manchester by helicopter for the nearby pair, and helicopter charter Birmingham for the city.
Manufacturing, brewing and visitors
Staffordshire is a manufacturing and logistics county, with engineering, ceramics around Stoke-on-Trent, brewing at Burton and a large visitor economy around Alton Towers, Shugborough and the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. Directors who need to visit a plant, a head office and a customer in a day will find same-day business trips the useful page, and business helicopter charter sets out the process.
Landing at a works, a country house or a hotel is subject to landing permission and site suitability, and we ask the owner first. For racing days at Cheltenham or Silverstone from the county, see Cheltenham and Silverstone.
Planning notes
Give us the date, the destination and each passenger's weight; arrive 10 minutes before departure and keep bags soft. Both fields close in the afternoon or early evening, so a return flight needs to land before the published close, and we ask for an extension if you need one. Rotors-running refuelling at Halfpenny Green is a weekday daytime service. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you pay nothing.
For ground transport, Executive Global Travel can meet you. The Midlands region page covers the area and the airfield directory lists the sites.
